Abstract

The paper presents the experience of implementing vendor product-based courses by Positive Technologies — PT-SIEM-CS (Certified Specialist in MaxPatrol SIEM) and PT-NAD-CS (Certified Specialist in PT Network Attack Discovery) — within a higher education trajectory covering two cross-sections of training: the first year of the specialist degree programme in the extended group of fields 10.00.00 «Information Security» within a profile subject and senior years (4–5) of the same specialist degree programme. The pedagogical rationale for taking first-year students to an independent vendor certification within a profile subject is unfolded: this practice is considered as an element of integrated career guidance ensuring early and subject-rooted contact of the learner with real professional activity, the formation of motivational-axiological and cognitive components of professional competence, and the consolidation of the professional choice through success in a normatively recognised assessment procedure. The pedagogical technologies of career guidance applied in the course are described in detail: professional probe, contextual learning, case study, project-based learning, simulation on an industrial training ground, mentoring, portfolio technology, reflective fixation, early embedded internship and independent certification as the culmination of the cycle. Quantitative results: 11 out of 14 students completed the SIEM block; all 29 students completed the NAD block and passed the proctored certification. The findings are consistent with the positions of the Russian school of professional pedagogy (S. Ya. Batyshev, A. M. Novikov, V. S. Lednev, T. Yu. Lomakina, A. A. Verbitsky, E. A. Klimov, E. F. Zeer) and recent international research on cybersecurity education and structured career pathways.
