Manuscripts are submitted through the journal website (see Submissions) together with the scans of the signed application form and personal data consent of each author. The title, abstract, keywords and author information are entered in the submission form. A manuscript is considered only if it meets the journal requirements published on the same page.

Registration

Each manuscript is registered automatically in the editorial system: it receives a number, and the date of receipt, title, authors and their affiliations are recorded. Authors are notified of receipt by e-mail within 7 days.

Peer review

Manuscripts undergo single-blind peer review: reviewers know the names of the authors, while authors do not know the name of the reviewer. The executive secretary checks that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and meets the formatting requirements, and then sends it to a reviewer — a Doctor of Sciences or Candidate of Sciences (PhD) whose specialization is closest to the topic of the manuscript. The reviewer must be a recognized expert in the field with publications on the subject within the last three years. Reviewers may be members of the editorial board or external experts.

The reviewer evaluates the manuscript within two weeks of receiving it and sends the editorial office either a review or a reasoned refusal to review. The review addresses the following questions:

• whether the content of the manuscript corresponds to its stated topic;
• whether the manuscript reflects the current state of research in the field;
• whether the language, style and structure make the material accessible to the target audience;
• whether publication is justified in view of the existing literature on the subject;
• the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript, and the corrections and additions required;
• a recommendation: “recommended”, “recommended subject to the corrections indicated” or “not recommended” for publication in “Professionalitet”.

Editorial decision

Based on the review, the manuscript is accepted for publication or rejected. If revisions are needed, the authors receive specific recommendations. If the manuscript is rejected, the reasons are given. A revised manuscript is uploaded through the website and considered in the regular way; the date of receipt of the revised version is recorded in the system.

A manuscript that is not recommended for publication is not considered again. Authors receive the text of the review, whether positive or negative, by e-mail through the editorial system. A positive review alone does not guarantee publication: the final decision is made by the editor-in-chief. Once it is made, the executive secretary informs the authors and tells them when the article will be published.

Retention of reviews

Reviews are kept by the editorial office of “Professionalitet” for five years. Copies of reviews are provided upon request of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
