Publications by Editorial Board Members

The editorial office of the scientific journal Professionalitet does not restrict members of the Editorial Board from publishing the results of their own research in the journal. The scope of the journal — the training of specialists in information technology and information security — is the direct field of professional activity of the Board members, and their methodological work, tested in actual educational practice, is of the same scholarly interest to our readers as the work of external authors.

At the same time, the editorial office holds that the roles of author and editor must never be combined on the same manuscript. Manuscripts authored by Editorial Board members are therefore handled under a procedure that fully excludes the author from any influence over the publication decision, and are accompanied by public disclosure.

HANDLING PROCEDURE

  1. An Editorial Board member who is an author or co-author of a manuscript is entirely excluded from its editorial handling. They do not assign reviewers, receive no access to the reviews or the identities of the reviewers, and take no part in the discussion of the manuscript or in the decision on it.
  2. The exclusion is enforced technically within the editorial management system: the author is not assigned as an editor of the submission and has no access to its editorial workflow.
  3. The manuscript is sent for double-blind peer review to no fewer than two reviewers who are not members of the Editorial Board, share no affiliation with the author, and have no joint publications with the author over the preceding three years.
  4. The decision to publish, to request revision, or to reject is taken by a handling editor appointed from among the Editorial Board members who are not authors of the manuscript.
  5. Where the Editor-in-Chief is an author or co-author, the handling editor is appointed by the Editorial Board; the Editor-in-Chief takes no part in this appointment.
  6. Requirements as to formatting, length, originality of the text, and the composition and currency of references are identical to the general requirements for authors. No expedited or simplified handling is applied. Publication in the journal is free of charge for Editorial Board members, as it is for all authors.

DISCLOSURE

Every publication authored or co-authored by an Editorial Board member carries a conflict-of-interest statement. The statement identifies the author's editorial role, records their exclusion from the handling of the manuscript, and names the person who took the publication decision.

Articles published before this policy entered into force carry an editorial note stating the author's editorial role and the procedure under which the manuscript was in fact handled.

To guard against any narrowing of the journal's subject range and author base, the editorial office observes the following limits:

Once any of these figures is reached, the acceptance of manuscripts from Editorial Board members into the issue or year concerned is suspended; such manuscripts are deferred to the following period or recommended for publication elsewhere.

CURRENT FIGURES

Over 2024–2025 the journal published 46 articles across 8 issues. Of these, 4 articles (8.7%) have an Editorial Board member among their authors, including 3 articles (6.5%) by the Editor-in-Chief. By year: 2024 — 0 of 20 articles (0%); 2025 — 4 of 26 articles (15.4%), of which 3 (11.5%) by the Editor-in-Chief. The highest share in a single issue was 2 of 7 articles (28.6%, issue No. 006, 2025).

These figures are updated by the editorial office at the close of each calendar year.

BASIS OF THE POLICY

This policy follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), in particular the principle that an editor must not take decisions on manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest, and is consistent with the Publication Ethics and Peer Review sections of this site.
